Well duel chamber playing is still a work in progress. I have come up with some interesting sounds by playing my Coda with my fingertips and both chambers. It is limited to only a few notes that this technique will work with however. But just like the first guitar player that realized that he could use his guitar like a drum. It could have its uses.  ??? :)

I wanted to love the Melody Maker. I love the idea of it but it had a bad side effect that I didn’t see coming. I remember reading about it thinking I need one of those. So I got one brought it home and started playing it for the next few days and starting to get the hang of it. Then I picked up my regular major diatonic and started playing it and I was missing notes and I’m thinking what in the world is going on. It was messing with my head some how. So I quit playing the Melody Maker after that.  :o ??? :(

I have 4 Lee Oscar harmonicas, including A-melody maker and 30th anniversary C-major diatonic. A Herring Chromatic. 4 Hohners: Ace, Blues Band, Big River Harp and a special 20.
My favorite harmonicas is the major diatonic Lee Oscar and Hohner special 20. :)

General Discussion / New looks for Coda

I am thinking of different ways to give coda new looks without redesigning the instrument.
Like colors , designs ,skins ,stickers and so on. Things like Karl did with the ivory  mouthpiece. Things that give Coda a collectable side. Like Karl did with the other mountain ocarinas. I would like to keep the conversation light and fun but maybe give Karl real ideas he might be able to use for future Codas.  ;) ??? :)

Like I am still looking for that gem like blue Coda.  ::) ;)
Nooooooo pressure or anything.  ;D ;)

I was just wondering if there is anybody here that plays the harmonica besides me and harp player and if so. What kind of harmonicas do you have?  :)

I woke up to a very nice surprise. The wind changed directions blew all the leaves off the yard. Another thing to be thankful for.  ;D
We live next to a woods and the area is full of trees all around us including 5 trees of our own. The hickories tend to hold there leaves longer also. So we always blow the leaves off the yard and cut the grass very short for the winter. The mowers we use mulch the grass and leaves but when there is so many leaves it overwhelms the system. ::)

I want everyone to have a Happy Thanksgiving and may the wind always blow in your favor. ;) :)

I play a new song 2 or 3 times then I start playing by ear instead of sight. I have to force myself to follow the notes on the sheet.  ??? ::)

It is very windy out today. Yesterday ( Tuesday) my Son and I finished yard work we started on Monday. We worked hard to prep the yard for winter before more rain, snow and wind come. So last night the rain and wind hit with a vengeance and covered the yard with leaves this morning.  ??? :o :( >:(
Well its a good day to play some music.  :)

I just discovered I can get a C-sharp on the top end. I wonder if there’s a way to get that top D. ??? 8)

To be honest with you, I have been playing some of those songs by ear on the Harmonica for so long  I wouldn't know if you made mistakes or not.

Their are also several I am not familiar with.  It may be a regional or cultural thing.

Yeah this is a problem I still have even though I can read sheet music I’m so used to playing by ear that sometimes I just kick into playing the music by ear without looking at the individual notes on the sheet music. They say you use two different parts of your brain when you’re playing music by ear or playing by sheet music. It’s good to train both parts of your brain to be able to do that but I still have trouble switching back-and-forth sometimes. :( ??? ::)

I have played around with several techniques and I have to say that the tilting down technique is probably my favorite. It can be done quickly and very precisely once you get used to it.  :) 8)

Just a friendly reminder that just as in life. It is not always good to take the easy way or path. Well it is the same with music and music playing. To get better sometimes we need to take the more difficult road. Some examples for me would be like always playing in the easy keys and not playing music with a lot of sharps and flats. Another would be avoiding chamber switching. To get good at those things we need to do them. That is the problem I have had with reading music. It has always been easier for me to play by ear. So I have to force myself to read the music if I want to improve my sight reading.  ??? ::) ;)
