I just wanted to say thanks to Roderick and Karl for the hard work they do filtering out the spammers on this site.  I wasn't aware that 100 or more tries to get into this board every day, until recently.    You are doing a fine job at keeping this site safe and spam free.

Hey, guys. Thank you too, Harp player, for helping the forum by getting rid of those annoying spammers. We want to have this community as "healthy" (free from spam) as possible.

And, just so you have an idea, the other day I had to go through 1000+ registrations and 98% of those were spam. I said that's it and tried to work some better solution. From now on, spammers have to go through "Recaptcha" which is quite effective preventing spammers (It used to be that we could get up to 200 spammers in one day, now we get 1 or 0).

 ;)

Coda Book Supports / [9th Song] Amazing Grace
« on: March 06, 2019, 09:54:58 pm »

James, the gifted musician who is collaborating with us to create these play-along tracks, recorded the backing tracks for Amazing Grace with a real guitar.  Please give us feedback on these! What do you like? What can we improve?

Coda Book Supports / [1st Song] Hot Cross Buns
« on: March 06, 2019, 09:54:18 pm »
Hot Cross Buns is the first song in the Coda book.  These play-along recordings are in 3 versions: the melody with backing track at 100 beats per minute, the backing track played slowly at only 60 bpm, and the backing track at 100 bpm. We plan to create something similar for most of the songs in the Coda book. (Actually, we eventually want to create a library of backing tracks to songs that you request.)

Besides being fun, playing along with backing tracks has several other advantages. It can improve your music reading skills, help you to learn to play by ear, prepare you for playing with other musicians, and teach you how to play in tune.

This is our first attempt at backing tracks. With your feedback, we want to improve them over time.

Here are the songs from the Coda book that we have recorded so far. I'm not terribly happy with these recordings (this is Karl speaking), so I'll replace them in the future. Our plan is to record all the songs in the Coda book (and provide play-alongs for many of them).

Hot Cross Buns  (p. 4)
Mary Had a Little Lamb  (p. 4)
Shady Grove  (p. 4)
Lullaby  (p. 5)
Lovely Joan  (p. 5)
Two Octave C Scale  (p. 6)
The Shady Woods of Truagh  (p. 11)
The Star Spangled Banner  (p. 14)
Silent Night in keys of C & F  (pgs. 15, 16)
Carolan's No. 176  (p. 30)

Share your musical journey / Re: Hint for learning to cover tone holes
« on: January 09, 2019, 07:26:11 pm »
I too had difficulty with consistency on the upper chamber notes until, as hoodsmom noted, I realised the upper chamber is served by the innermost holes. By consciously playing those holes with my fingertips when in the upper register my brain found everything easier than in my earlier attempts to actually ignore the double holes. And now with practice I have discovered my accuracy for closing both holes simultaneously has improved and I don’t need to think of the separate rows anymore.

Practice makes perfect.  ;)
